Our \Ffirst Timeshare Getaway

We were lured down to our timeshare this weekend with a new owner Taste of San Diego Tour. First stop was a coffee grinding and roasting place. Not much there for us! Then second stop was this great Mexican restaurant where we sampled cripspy quesadillas and burritos. Yummy!
Third stop was this Italian restaurant where we sampled pizza (Terry loved the clam-garlic!) and ravioli. Very good!

Last stop was this fun diner that has been in lots of movies and on the food chanel. We sampled Monte Cristo sandwiches and sweet potato fries. Even if I wasn't stuffed I don't think I would ever order that sandwich again!

Saturday Libby brought her parents down for the day. Terry and Brad were golfing right behind Libby.

The weather was beautiful so we girls headed off to the pool. It was a bit chilly but Libby had a good time anyway.

We ended the day at the jacuzzi which was a nice warm temperature. Just right for Libby. We went for a walk and ran into the golfers on the last hole (sorry no pictures) then had a nice dinner and called it a night!

For the last two weeks I have taken Libby out back and we have picked a tangerine from our tree. She loves tangerines! This week we had one in the morning and while Becky and I were enjoying the nice weather in the courtyard little miss headed out back to help herself!

Christmas 2011 - Phase Three

The Stewarts came the day after the Openshaws and we had a great pictureless day at the beach and hanging out. Amy's gang left and we went to Disneyland for my birthday with the Stewarts and Macbeths.

The Openshaws came the day after Christmas. We went to the San Diego Zoo on the 27th along with most of SoCal!

The Mitchell Clan came for Christmas! We went to the Ritz Carlton to check out their decorations and enjoy the beach view. The weather was wonderful.

We just got back from helping Jen and her family pack up their home for the big move to Montana. It was very sad as they had made so many wonderful friends in the short year they were in Clarkdale. They had a ton of people come over to help and the job went as well as could be expected.
We did get to go to Ty and Syds last soccer games and it was fun watching them but sad when they had to say goodbye.
The truck, minivan and Tahoe headed to Amy's house in Provo Sunday morning. Becky, Brad, Libby, and we got to go to Bearizona outside of Williams, Ariz. Jen had a free pass and it was so fun. We drove through many animal enclosures and got to handfeed burros and watch as blackbears walked right up the road to us! It is a really cool place.
The lack of any pictures is because I am an idiot! We had great moving pictures, snow pictures, and animal pictures that I deleted!!! Jen and Becky didn't take any pictures because I took so many! I am an idiot!
I know the Stewarts will make wonderful friends in Billings but I sure wish it was a heck of a lot closer!

I have wanted to Bike the Bridge in San Francisco since I saw it was possible last year. It seems I had a few other family members who thought it would be fun too. The Openshaws came for their Fall break and we all met at Tammys house in Sacramento then over to SF for the adventure.

What a crazy gang - 15 of us in all. Ellie made it all the way even though she had to pedal like crazy. Max was in his seat on Amys bike and Libby loved her trailer.

We just wish the Stewarts could have joined us but as the Openshaw boys said "they got to go on a cruise and we didn't"!

The Openshaws at the half way point. We rode into Sausalito and some rode back across while the rest of us took the ferry back. It was great and I'll go again anytime. The perfect weather made it perfect!

Mark found a good deal at the Hilton in the Financial District. This was the view from one side of the hotel.

Chinatown was right across the street so we did a little shopping, visited the fortune cookie factory, and Uncle Eric introduced the boys to Hercules poppers - WOW!

We had to ride the cablecars and rode the trolley too!

This adventure all started when Emily Oster asked Becky to be a bridesmaid and invited Terry and I to the wedding too. It was a beautiful wedding at the Flood Mansion.

We went to the Palace of Fine Arts before the long ride home. It is so beautiful and right on the bay.

We were lucky and got to spend the week with the Stewarts cruising The Carnival Splendor down to Mexico. Due to the hurricane we went to La Paz instead of Puerto Vallarta. Will post pictures later of us swimming with whale sharks there!

Ty loved the slide and the soft serve ice cream the best! Summer got to bring her best friend, Leah, and she is an official Stewart now!

We arrived Fri. night just in time for the BYU game and the Lunds gave us their amazing 50 yd. line seats along with the great buffet in the tent!

And BYU even won!

Bright and early Saturday morning, Amy's official 40th birthday, she had a group of her friends (and her fat, old, mom) join her in the Dirty Dash in the mountains above Provo.

Here is the whole gang complete with party hats and custom t-shirts with Amy's cute 15 year old picture on them.

Most of the gang after washing off most of the mud...yuck! I may post more dirty pictures when I get them!

After a long shower we got to go with Marks friends for a float down the Provo River with the whole family.

She really does know how to celebrate!

On Saturday Becky planned a great party with 3 of her other friends who had girls turning 1 within a few weeks of each other. Becky made the cute ladybug cupcakes to go with the theme.

Porter was kind enough to wake up early and pick us up with his dad and Brad Barber at Wahweap Marina after our all night drive.

We did a very crazy road trip last weekend..Lake Powell, Provo, and home in 3 days! Just one of the gorgeous views from the houseboat. I am waiting on Amy to send photos of the real reason for our crazy 3 day, 2000 mile trip! More to come
On the way home we stopped off at the beautiful St. George Temple to let Libby (and us) get a good break from the 26 hours we spent in the car!

We found out our neice, Kelly, from Texas was in town and made her come visit!
It was fun spending an evening with her.

Becky, Libby, and I went to the fair on Wed. It was We Care Wednesday and we got it for 5 canned good. It was great.

We stayed and watched the fire for about an hour until the Nazi ranger forced us to leave! About 20 firetrucks got it out in about an hour with no major damage.

We went to the Angels game on free hat night - yay! The Stewarts look cute in theirs!

We got kicked out of the ballpark at the end cuz we were watching the Disneyland fireworks while Bec fed Libby. It is getting to be a habit with us - getting kicked out of places that is!

Randy had a birthday so we met up at Spaghetti Factory in Fullerton. It is a birthday tradition we started when mom and dad were still with us. Miss them.

Syd decided to sleep in the hammock one night and she made it the whole night!

Today was the 3 year anniversary of Dad passing. Libby and I went to the cemetery to take some flowers and clean up the headstone. She felt the peace there too and enjoyed talking to both mom and dad too. I sure miss them!

Last year I planted one of my favorite plants, calla lilies, in this shady spot despite everyone telling me it was not a good idea. Sure enough, they grew well but did not flower much and were taking over. So I dug them out and we have now planted azaleas and gold dust. They are blooming beautifully right now. Lesson learned!
Hyacinths are one of my very favorite flowers and these are perfuming my whole courtyard right now. It brings to mind a favorite poem. Forgive the indulgence...

If of thy mortal good thou art bereft,
and from thy slender store
Two loaves alone to thee are left,
Sell one, and with the dole
Buy hyacinths to feed thy soul.

Libby is so cute and smiles all the time unless you point a camera at her. Caught a little one!

She is sitting at the dinner table in my little highchair and loves to drink from her very own cup!

After a wonderful luncheon Amy made for after the baptism Bec, Brad, Porter, Zane and Summer went to Sundance to board and ski. The rest of us went to the new Provo Beach Club and went miniature croqueting! It was interesting and fun with this crazy group.

The kids wanted to do all the fun things there - bowling, ropes course, wave pool, arcade, etc. but the budget said sorry!
Jen drove the 10 hours from Sedona and we were gone from our house a total of 50 hours (21 of which were in the car!!!!). We did learn one thing... if you ever want to drive home through Vegas on a Sunday without traffic let it be Super Bowl Sunday! The road were quite empty!

Jen and the kids came after we got back from Utah (Jason had to work opening their new store). Here we are overlooking Laguna Beach from Badlands Park. It is quite a view!

Here is the view of the other direction overlooking Salt Creek, Doheny and San Clemente. We love this hike!

We ended our hiking New Years Eve Day at the Montage and everyone loved it - especially Scoop (the Stewarts dog) who had a great time swimming and running to her hearts content!

Here is possibly the best Christmas present ever! Kinda a long story but so worth it. When we had to clean out my parents home I told my brothers and sister all I really wanted was this cute flocked cardboard Santa. My mom had bought it for 10 cents on their first Christmas she and my dad were married. It always sat beneath our Christmas tree and I loved it. Well, when we went through things at mom and dads the Santa was nowhere to be found. I was very sad because he meant so much to me. Today I got a present in the mail from my sister, Tammy, and found a duplicate Santa just like my childhood one. Tammy knew how much I loved that Santa and searched e-bay and found an exact (but slightly less loved) one. Bet she paid more than 10 cents but I love it and it will now have a place of honor under my tree. She did put in dibs for it if I die first! Thank you Tammy for one of my best gifts ever!!!!!

We got to spend a nice long Thanksgiving weekend at Tammys house in Rocklin. We ate too much and even went to San Francisco on Friday.

Since we have remodeled and moved in to the new house I have been bugging Terry to let me paint the cupboards white. He had some pretty strong ties to the oak but he finally saw the "white". Not bad before....
A few years ago I suggested we paint the hutch he built about 15 years ago. It is a great hutch but I felt it would be cuter with parts of it white....

I love the hutch! And even though Terry doesn't like to admit it, he does too!

Libby was absolutely perfect on the trip including a very long ride home with an hours delay on the freeway due to an accident

Ty's team is coached by his dad and sister. He scored 3 goals for us!

Summers game was really fun to watch. The final score was 9-7 and they won! She played great!

Syds game was almost cancelled at the beginning due to lightning but it was only delayed about 15 minutes and we got to watch the whole game not just 5 minutes!

Ty and Syd had a great time in the pool with Uncle Brad. The weather had cooled off so much that the rest of us decided we we not all that hot and just sat and watched the action.

Just down the dirt road from Jens house is the Old Jerome Cemetery. Not quite a German cemetery but fun to check out some of the remaining graves.

Sunday afternoon we had an amazing rain and hail storm complete with a full rainbow!

Porter is #96 and had a good game despite another loss.

What a weekend - we girls started it off with Lion King in SLC. Ellie really liked it especially when one of the animals put his face right up to hers!
We started off Sat. morning with Porters game for the freshman team of Timpview - it was a bit chilly.

Next over to Tanners flag football game

Then on to Zanes game in Orem. He actually scored a touchdown but they still lost!

Trevor was in town with his girlfriend, Carli. Ellie wouldn't leave them alone!!!

Our fourth football game of the day was the BYU game and they made it a perfect 0-4 for the day!!!!

We borrowed Uncle Randys truck and took Porter our old double bed. Then we went shopping and got him a very early birthday present, new bedding.

Sunday after dinner we took a drive up Provo Canyon to see the fall colors. It is a fun ride in the Cobra.

I think we were a week late for the color but it was still beautiful.

Jen suggested we do a "House Swap" with her in-laws for a few days. All of them came to our house and Becky & Brads and we got to go to Gary & Maries beautiful home in Las Vegas. We are sure we got the best of the deal! We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend - well, except for the drive home in horrible traffic Sunday!

We love watching our grandbaby grow!

We got to see two of Beckys old friends, Cassie and Hayley, and got to meet Cassies baby, Scarlett - what a cutie!

We golfed on their putting green and played bocce ball

We saw a great show - the Beatles Love Cirque du Soleil

We walked the Strip and checked out the cool hotels and Bellagio water show

Missing Willy

We lost our good buddy, Willy, on Saturday morning. We got him as a puppy about 16 years ago. He was a great dog and we sure will miss him. He went blind and deaf about 1 1/2 years ago but still loved to go for walks (and kill rats!). I walked him around the lake on Thurs. morning and then we did our house swap with the Stewart family so we weren't here when he died. Thanks Jen for dealing with the details. We miss him.

Note the fog finally clearing at 3:30 pm! The kids liked this beach so much we went back Fri. for our bonfire and I lost my camera at lifeguard #4 in State Beach. Big reward if you find it and call me. Thus, no pictures of our bike rides, hobo dinners, smores, Syd's fun games, etc.! The tire zip line was fun and had a crazy landing!

Becky had a few furlough days and wanted to go someplace so I found a great deal in the Palm Springs area. We had a very relaxing 4 days. It was wonderful

The gorgeous MiraMonte Resort in Indian Wells

We loaded up my car with 4 bikes and had some great bike rides!

The bike trails and water features in Indian Wells are so gorgeous! Almost makes the 100+ weather enticing!

We biked 4 miles to register for baby goodies at Babies R Us. On Monday Bec and I biked 12 miles to a great quilt shop to try and figure out bedding for our new little girl!

We enjoyed the wonderfully cool pools - and Becky's Baby Bump!

We played croquet in the shade of a giant olive tree. Ask the boys who won!!!

Jen came down for a few days of beach and pool and we went to The Wild Animal Park on Friday.

The weather was actually perfect but you know kids and water! The park has great cooling stations!

It was fun to watch the trainer feed the cheetahs - just another housecat!

A fun trip to Northern California

We decided to take a little trip up to see my sister in the Sacramento area and really enjoyed that beautiful are of our state.

We enjoyed walking the boardwalk in Santa Cruz - what a fun place!

We fell in love with the Venecian Village in Capitola and would love to take the grandkids there if it wasn't so far!

We strolled the wharf in Capitola

We had a nice dinner and visit with Terrys cousins, Julene, Marlene, and Greg

We were lucky and got to see my cousin, Tarea, and her husband, Willy, for a few hours. They were camping at New Brighton Beach just down the road.

We stayed at this wonderful Bed and Breakfast (The Inn at Depot Hill) in Capitola outside of Santa Cruz

When we were with the Mitchells in Europe we took lots of food pictures so here is one in the states! This was a new burger joint by them called the Squeeze Inn. This burger was delicious and had a cheese "skirt" - Yummy and definitely not on my diet!

We went to see Terrys Aunt Peggy and had a delightful visit with this spunky 87 year old

We took a day trip on Memorial Day to the Napa Valley and timed it just right for a great little town celebration in Napa. It was very patriotic and we were glad we stumbled upon it.

We went to one of Californias best wineries in the cute town of St. Helena. We were probably the only non-wine drinkers there but had a great picnic on the beautiful grounds.

We ended the trip with a great meal at Buca di Beppo. We had never been there and were lucky enough to eat in the kitchen. We ate way too much on this trip but boy was it good!

I took a few days off and drove up to Provo with my friend, Sueann Bullock. Thursday we woke up to 2-3 inches of snow!!!

It was the end of April!!! Friday it rained all day and then Saturday was beautiful. It is hard for a California girl to understand snow in April!!! It was fun to hang out with Max. He is getting so big and still the worlds best baby.

I got to go to all the kids soccer games (sorry no pictures of Tanners). Notice the snow on the mountains in the background! I love going to their games!

Porter and Zane are on the same team and they won their game. It is really fun to watch them - they are so good.

We all went to the La Mirada theater for Cheryls birthday. We saw the Buddy Holly Story. It was great! Brit brought her friend (and ours - he is how Becky and Brad met!), Mike. It was a great night.

I walk around Laguna Niguel lake a few times a week and it has been so beautiful with all the green. I forgot my camera in the morning when the sun was shining but it still was beautiful under the clouds. I'm glad we live so close now.

It had really cooled off when we walked around the lake after dinner.

More Sedona for Easter

We went to the Sedona Easter Egg Hunt. Ty got to find a bunch of eggs but the girls were too old so they got to go on a very frustrating scavenger hunt. Ask them if they had a good time?

We were lucky to have the Stewarts come for part of their Spring break and really lucky to celebrate Ty's birthday with him at Chuck E. Cheese!

We all had a great time with Ty. Aunt Becky came too late for the picture (those darn track meets!)

Good weather for a little planting

This is the trench that has slowed down the progress on the yard. Seems that you dig down a little and water comes pouring in!!! Yikes! Blind and deaf Willy had a hard time and fell in a few times. It was very sad.

The trench is filled in and hopefully we can move a little faster on the landscaping now.

My wall planter outside the gate is really filling in nicely.

We could only get two of these Harley Botanica trees for privacy in the back yard. Hopefully we can get some more soon.

It rained very hard and often on Saturday but we did manage to get some King palms and Terry planted them in the rain. I think it looks wonderful already. I love green!

Terry and I had a very long discussion about this plant. It is Terry's favorite - a Japanese Maple. It grows very slowly, doesn't bloom and only has leaves from March to September and it cost $70!!!! And that does not include the pot! He tells me it will be magnificent so that is what I have named it - the Magnificent plant! Now, we'll just have to wait and see if it lives up to its name!

While Terry was picking up our fountain I did a little planting. I got the calla lilies from the old house and hope they do half as good in this spot as they did there.

Terry has the spot ready for the fountain. Our dear friends gave us a very generous gift certificate for our new house. We really appreciate them and will remember them every time we walk into the house.

We're so glad Brad has such a reliable (and strong) truck! The base alone was over 500 lbs.!

Thank goodness Brad has strong, young friends to help. Wayne and Jake are good sports to drop everything and come flex their muscles for us.

Levelling it perfectly so it drips just right.

Now, just picture some beautiful tropical plants, a bench and some grass - won 't it be gorgeous?

Valentines Weekend

We were lucky to have the Stewarts come for the weekend. We went to Travis Eastons wedding, the tide pools, shopping, and watched lots of the Olympics. It was a great weekend!

The girls made the boys a really nice dinner. Thanks Jen for a great new recipe!

Sydney helped set the table. Terry gave me the beautiful tulips to remind me of our wonderful trip to Holland last year.

Sydney even made us special placecards with special messages

Uncle Brad is really good at entertaining (and winding up) the troops!

Our Valentines Day Potluck on Monday, February 15th!

Monday night we had a few friends over for a potluck dinner. Most people brought their wedding pictures and it was fun to see how we have changed over the years (well, with the exception of Becky, Melody, and Walt!).

Our 35 year old diningroom table had seen better days so we had been keeping our eyes open. I found this one at TJ Maxx and it was such a good deal that even Scrouge (Terry) agreed that we needed it!

It took me awhile to convince Terry that we needed another new chair for the living room but he finally saw the light. After much debate we got this one and some nesting tables. It is really comfy and makes for an easier conversation with guests.

Larry and Kim come to visit

My big brother, Larry, and my sister-in-law, Kim, came for a few days visit from Texas. We had a nice visit with them.
